Abstract
In this talk we will be exploring some of the aspects of water flow, quality,
use, law and stewardship (or lack-thereof) as they have evolved over the last
two centuries here in Hawaiʻi.
Biography
Dr. Ka‘eo Duarte was born and raised in the ahupua‘a of Hōlualoa, Kona, on Hawai‘i
Island. He is married to Mahinapoepoe and is the father of Kamakupa‘ke‘e. He is
the Water Resources Manager at Kamehameha Schools, Land Assets Division, and
his interests include hydrology, water management and optimization, coastal
processes, ecohydrology, and indigenous knowledge systems. He holds a B.S.E.
in environmental engineering from Princeton University, and a Ph.D. in
environmental engineering, specializing in hydrology, from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology.
