Field Study to He‘eia Bay & Kaneaka
Date/Time: Saturday, January 28, 2012, 8:30 a.m.-Noon

Kaneaka is the famous royal kahua halua (slide) in Keauhou, North Kona, whose current footprint is being captured through a plane table mapping project with island students. Cultural specialist Mahealani Pai and lead mapping teacher Keane Kalawe will share aspects of their ongoing research about Kaneaka, Heaia Bay and the connection between these two sites. For lecture attendees wishing to have an on-site experience, a field study is offered. As co-founder of Keala o ka Holua, Kalawe also works to revitalize the Hawaiian art of sledding. Pai serves as poo or leader of the site restoration efforts managed by the Keauhou-Kahaluu Education Group.

For more information on the lecture and field study RSVP (space is limited), contact Joy Cunefare at 808-534-8528, or e-mail info@kohalacenter.org.
