Partners
The Kohala Watershed Partnership (KWP) is a voluntary coalition of private landowners and State land managers who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2003, pledging their support for a plan to jointly manage the forested watershed of Kohala Mountain.
The KWP Partners include Parker Ranch, Ponoholo Ranch, Kahua Ranch, Queen Emma Land Company, Kamehameha Schools, Laupahoehoe Nui LLC, Kohala Preserve Conservation Trust/Surety Kohala Corporation, State Division of Forestry and Wildlife, State Division of Hawaiian Home Lands, The Nature Conservancy, and the County Department of Water Supply.
The Pelekane Bay Watershed Restoration Project is on lands owned by the State of Hawai‘i and Queen Emma Land Company, with Parker Ranch leasing the entire property for cattle operations. These KWP partners have been active in the planning and implementation of this project.
The Kamuela State Tree Nursery, run by the Division of Forestry and Wildlife, is another important partner in this project. They are sharing their facility and their expertise and guiding our crew as they propagate and grow all the native plants required for the project.
The time, talents, and resources of these partners make it possible to accomplish this project.
